As a projector for the Homecinema sector, the Sanyo PLV Z5 is equipped with 1100 ANSI lumens, a HDTV 1280 x 720 resolution and a contrast of 10000:1. The manufacturer rates the durability of the included lamp at 2000 hours. Thanks to the combination of optical lens shift and digital keystone correction, the projected image's position can be adjusted very flexibly. The Lens Shift Calculator helps find the optimal installation dimensions. A look at the light output reveals: The 1100 ANSI lumens are sufficient to illuminate an image width of up to 337 cm in darkened rooms. If room light is present, we recommend not exceeding a maximum width of 225 cm. Regarding signal processing, the model is compatible with incoming 1080P content. Regarding noise emissions, the model proves to be exceptionally quiet during operation, producing just 26 decibels. Since entering the market in 2006, production has been discontinued; the manufacturer no longer actively offers the model. As an archive device, the projector remains highly relevant in our database.

Really loud fan
Bought the Z5 second-hand a few days ago because of the good reviews. I only had beamer experience with a 10-year-old Liesegang device with at least VGA resolution...:-)
Clearly the Z5 is superior in all areas and for the small price of 200 euros it produces a pretty good picture - if the room is reasonably dark......ABER!!!!!
The fan on this device is actually supposed to be relatively quiet???? That‘s a joke, isn‘t it? Maybe if the device is hanging under the ceiling in an old building at a height of 4 meters. It‘s not a whit quieter than the old Liesegang and at least as loud as 3 Windows PCs put together. Mind you, in the lamp‘s eco mode. It‘s really only suitable for watching football matches with mates or action movies with LOTS of crash-boom. Every quieter passage is "blown away". That is very sobering. I will put the device back on ebay, where I got it, at the next opportunity. I‘d rather save up for a 50" TV. That‘s really no fun.

Very satisfied
Have been using the PLV-Z5 projector since 2007 and currently have to replace the lamp for the first time.
Placed on the ceiling in a dark basement room, it does its job to my complete satisfaction. I still don‘t find the picture quality any worse than that of newer models.

New Full-HD is not worth it!!!
Hello, the Z5 is still a "top part"(and that after 5 years)!!!With a max. screen diagonal of 2.50m,at 4-5m seat distance, the new purchase of a "Full-HD" is definitely not worth it(important, you have already switched from DVD to BD,because that‘s where the big difference in quality lies!Apart from perhaps a slight increase in fan noise (the filters just need to be cleaned again!), there is hardly any room for improvement! The sharpness, colors and contrast are still "top" (assuming a darkened room!) and that with the first lamp!!!

Not satisfied!!!
I can only agree with XMEN.
Compared to other used projectors in this price range, the Z5 could not convince me at all.
Somehow sobering.

Übelst !
Hello,
Have been offered a Z5 with C4H tuning and replacement lamp for relatively little money. Beamer unpacked...2 hours on the speedometer, well, it had to be tuned I thought.
First movie: The Z5 is terrible! Lousy contrast, lousy black level, the Auto-Iris a catastrophic pumping like hell and making noises...a single sparkle the device. I packed it up again, you can‘t watch movies on it, any 600 Euro DLP is better. Unfortunately the dealer is bitching and doesn‘t want to exchange the box...he will have known beforehand what a cucumber it is...
O.K it‘s quiet but otherwise ?...
No, never in my life!

sirgoele...knows better !
Hello friends of the night !
After having a Z3 for many years and briefly cheating with a Sony, I decided to go for a C4H tuned Z5 again. The reasons for this are actually obvious. The Z5 is a very well-balanced and mature device with hardly any real weaknesses. US tests particularly praise the black level, which was criticized here, and the so-called shadow details, i.e. the clarity in dark scenes. Why this is praised in the USA and criticized here as a minus is beyond me. In my opinion, with a good player (in my case a Denon 1740), the Z5 is the best 720p LCD at the moment. 2x HDMi, 2x YUV etc.pp no one offers that. It is quiet, produces crisp colors and with C4H tuning I get the most out of it. In terms of black and white and contrast, the Z2000 can‘t pull away either, so in principle there‘s only one plus point, namely the resolution, which is more of a deterioration with DVD playback. Since the HD battle is now definitely decided in favor of Blue Ray, I‘ll sit back with the Z5 for 18 months and wait and see what happens on the player market. In particular, the prices for software (in this case movies) still have a long way to fall. In 18 months, there will certainly be Blue Ray titles for the 15 euros I‘ve announced, and there will certainly be a whole battery of players under 200 euros as well as full HD projectors with D8 or D9 panels that will be available for under 1500 euros..... bet ? Remember the date of this edit and just read it in 18 months and you‘ll see...not so stupid sir !

Z5, hardly any further development
In principle just an update of the Z4 !
The Z4 was an update of the Z3 in a new housing. If you disregard the Auto Iris, the LCDs are at a standstill in terms of picture technology !
All in all, a good LCD, but also quite a dazzler.
Only for people who are familiar with projectors.

Many setting options
The Z5 is great, if you take a look at the many setting options and set it up according to a test DVD, you can still get amazing results, conclusion: top picture at a fair price
PS: On the question of Panasonic or Z5, lensshift is better on the Z5, otherwise both are pretty much identical in terms of picture quality

flexible lens shift
the lens shift system and the optical zoom make positioning in the home cinema room super flexible and easy. Good picture quality
