Brief Introduction
Beta 2.5
A brief introduction to the W703D: The Benq 3D BrilliantColor DLP projector offers 2200 Ansi lumens, a contrast of 10000:1 and an HDTV 1280 x 720 resolution. The lamp life is specified by the manufacturer as 4500 hours, which is over 6.2 years if enjoyed for two hours every day. 2200 Ansi lumens ensure that a picture width of 477 cm is also possible. However, if room light is available, the picture should be max. 318 cm wide. The model is also Full HD 1080P and 3D compatible. It was launched in 2012 and is no longer offered by the manufacturer Benq, but is still very popular in our projector database.

Benq W703D Ratings

3 Stars 4 months in operation
so far I am satisfied, but after 4 months and approx. 250 operating hours in eco mode, the lamp has given up the ghost. Dust also in the lens. Sost from the picture top for the price

2 Stars Great picture at first, but soon a massive problem with dust in the light path
The projector initially produced a great, bright picture, which was hardly inferior to the BenQ W1070 with Full HD resolution that I was also using. When playing Full HD material, you had to look very closely to see a difference between the two devices in terms of picture quality. 3D operation when playing from a 3D Blu-ray player worked perfectly. As the necessary shutter glasses absorb a considerable amount of light, it is important that the projector projects a sufficiently bright image, which is the case with the W703D. The playback of 3D videos in side-by-side format also worked without any problems. Only in over-and-under mode, i.e. the two images for the respective eye in the source video arranged one above the other, the device could not be persuaded to switch from 4:3 mode to 16:9 mode.
As I was initially very satisfied with the device, I‘m almost sorry to have to give it such a poor rating. However, since the BenQ W703D seems to have a significant flaw, I unfortunately have no other choice.

After about 4 months of use in our non-smoking household, I noticed that light spots appeared on the screen in dark movie scenes. When the focus of the projector was turned on, these spots came into focus and it became clear that they were obviously dust. Cleaning the lens did not help, so the dust must have gotten into the light path somehow. This should not actually happen with a DLP projector, as the light path should be encapsulated. However, a number of about 10 grains of dust had accumulated in the light path, which seriously impaired the picture quality - dark scenes could no longer be viewed - so I had the projector picked up by BenQ for repair. After almost exactly 3 weeks I got the device back. Obviously an attempt had been made to clean it, but there were still dust particles in the light path. Since I now paid attention to this and checked it from time to time over the next few days, I found that new dust particles had been added after just 14 days.
Because of this considerable problem, and because the image quality is probably the most important thing with a projector, I can unfortunately only give such a poor rating to what is in itself a convincing device.

2 Stars weak
Decided between ACER H5360BD and this Benq. Unfortunately wrong. This device has inferior image preparation chip. Pictures have problems with diagonal lines, moire but what totally disturbs me is extreme posterization effect where e.g. red stands out so much that even a grey outline is visible. The same as red, blue and green. Mission impossible 4 is unbearable. The color wheel can‘t be 3x because it flickers and there is significantly more RBE than on my old ACER P1266. The cooling is much too loud even in eco and in eco the flickering is even very strong in bright scenes. It‘s not a bad part, I‘ve seen two other W700s that suffer from exactly the same posterization and flickering. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend the device.

4 Stars Good, with compromises
Very good and bright picture. However, in contrast to my old Optoma HD70, there is a clear rainbow effect, as the color wheel speed is only 3x instead of 4x. If I had known of alternatives with less RBE in this price segment, I would have returned it. You get used to it a little. After 50 hours of use, there are now several specks of dust behind the lens, visible in very dark film passages. Probably not an absolutely isolated case according to my I-net research. Shouldn‘t this actually happen with Dlp projectors? If it gets any worse, I‘ll send it in. About the 3D picture: very good picture with Acer DLP-Link glasses, bright, high-contrast and colorful. Good depth effect, but little pop-out effect so far. Whether this is due to d. I don‘t know whether this is due to the glasses or the movies.

4.5 Stars Not bad
Have been thinking back and forth between the Acer 5360 BD and the Benq W703. I decided on the 703 because it has the better 2D picture. And I‘m generally satisfied. The only thing is that it is a bit more sensitive to the quality of the feed compared to the Benq 625 I had before. But by buying a slightly higher quality HDMI cable, everything works perfectly. As 3D glasses I have NoName from Amazon in use and that also works without any problems.
